About Us
This project was born with Taberna Saudade, an historical 19th century fado house and a place of worship of old Lisbon and the tradition of fado.
With its closure we felt the need to continue on this path, recreating it and bringing it closer to you, with the seriousness and quality that characterizes us.
Saudade Eventos aims to promote and organize fado events in a unique concept: bringing together the biggest and most acclaimed voices of today´s fado, while recreating the environment of the old days.
We work with both Legends, the fado singers that are masters and icons of this art, and that will always will be remembered in the history of fado, and Hopes, great voices of newer generations - because the past and the future must go together.
Given that fado and classical music go together so well, we decided to add this option to make your event all the more special.
Fado
The origins of fado are uncertain, but it is definitely Portuguese! It is the result of an historical and cultural fusion that took place in Lisbon, in the second half of the nineteenth century.
It begins in the marginal neighborhoods of Lisbon, expressing feelings such as sadness, bitterness and SAUDADE, which roughly translates to longing, and it may also induce hope.
Although fado was linked to an impoverished and marginal fringe of society, it is in the mix of classes that it is born and is later taken to the great aristocratic halls where it begins to gain fame and prominence. Soon, with some controversy, it would quickly become the musical expression of Portugal.
Today, our fado is recognized worldwide and is elevated to the category of Cultural and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
